Finding a vape shop in Boston
Boston's vape retail environment is shaped by Massachusetts, which pioneered some of the strictest tobacco control rules in the country. This guide covers the city and nearby communities including Cambridge, Brookline and Somerville, with listings that show the hours, phone numbers and addresses we hold.
The state's tiered retail system affects what different types of shop may stock, so it is worth checking the listing before you visit. Fields we do not know are shown as unknown rather than guessed.
Vape laws in Boston and Massachusetts
Massachusetts has some of the strictest vape rules in the United States โ the Commonwealth was the first state to put a comprehensive flavoured tobacco ban in place.
Since June 2020, flavoured tobacco and vaping products have been banned in Massachusetts, including all fruit, candy, mint and menthol-flavoured vape products. Flavoured products may only be bought and consumed at licensed smoking bars โ specialist 21+ establishments where tobacco products are consumed on the premises and no food or drink is served.
Massachusetts also uses a tiered retail system. Convenience stores and petrol stations may only sell non-flavoured nicotine vaping products at 35 mg/ml or less. Retail tobacco stores, which admit adults 21 and over only, may sell non-flavoured products at any nicotine strength. Licensed smoking bars may sell all vape products, including flavoured ones, but for consumption on the premises only.
The minimum purchase age is 21. Boston adds its own Board of Health regulations, including restrictions on flavoured tobacco products, and enforces the statewide indoor smoking ban, which covers vaping.
Vape and tobacco rules change often and can differ between a city, county and state. This summary is general information, not legal advice, and is not a verification of any shop's licence. Confirm current requirements with the relevant state or local authority, and always be ready to show government-issued photo ID proving you are of legal purchase age.
